The triumphant howl of Red Wolf, Johnny Wakely, the mighty Native American warrior of Marvel's Old West, was first heard back in issue #1 of Marvel Spotlight (November 1971). Red Wolf's origin is one forged from heartbreak. Orphaned as a young brave when pony soldiers slaughtered his parents, he was taken in and raised by Martin and Emma Wakely. Tragically, Wakely suffered the loss of his second set of parents when a band of renegade Native Americans killed them. Soon after, Johnny offered his talents to the US Army Fort Rango. After suffering an injury on his first mission, Johnny awoke in the caves of the first Red Wolf, and was entrusted with their grand mission of bringing peace to the American Plains.
